Parents to Be Fined for Their Children's Smoking
Members of the State Duma have submitted a package of bills to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation for review, which, among other things, proposes fines of up to 7,000 rubles for parents whose children smoke under the age of 16.
This was announced by Artem Metelyov, the chairman of the State Duma's Youth Policy Committee, on his Telegram channel. “A package of anti-smoking legislation has been sent to the government and the Supreme Court,” he stated.
In April, public figure Vladimir Mikhailov mentioned that the sale of tobacco products to minors is restricted in Russia, but despite this, these products remain publicly accessible. Over the past decade, cases of smoking among children have increased tenfold.
It has been noted that a draft law has been presented to the State Duma, which proposes to equate the dissemination of information about the online sale of vapes, hookahs, and tobacco to that of methods of suicide.
