We Will Respond with Asymmetric Measures: Zakharova
Russia will respond to the economic and transit sanctions imposed by the Baltic states in reaction to hostility towards Moscow. This was announced by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“We will also respond to the hostile actions of the Baltic countries with asymmetric measures, primarily in the economic and transit sectors,” Zakharova stated. Her comments were cited by RIA Novosti.
The diplomatic spokesperson also reminded that the redirection of freight flows towards Russia's northwestern ports has had a negative impact on the economies of the Baltic states. At the same time, she emphasized that there are many Russian-speaking citizens living in the Baltic countries, which makes the severance of diplomatic relations extremely undesirable.
Previously, Zakharova had announced that due to hostility towards Russia, Moscow has severed interstate ties with Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. She also highlighted that Moscow is not the initiator of the breakdown of relations with other countries, but rather is trying to maintain the possibility of dialogue.
