US Threatens China with Sanctions for Military Support to Moscow
The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken plans to caution his counterparts during his visit to China next week that Washington and its allies are becoming increasingly intolerant of Beijing's refusal to supply technology to Moscow, according to the Financial Times, citing sources.
Sources stated that the United States is considering the possibility of imposing sanctions on Chinese financial and other organizations. One source indicated that Blinken's message will be "the clearest warning" the US has ever issued to Chinese officials.
Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell has said that China is undermining European security by providing dual-use technologies to Russia while simultaneously trying to develop closer economic and political ties with Europe. "We have tried to emphasize in discussions with European and Chinese interlocutors that these dual objectives are incompatible, and that we want China to carefully consider its next steps," he stated.
According to him, Washington is being "very frank" in expressing its concerns in this regard and intends to hold Beijing accountable.
Blinken will visit China from April 24-26. His deputy clarified that he will raise the issue of cooperation with Russia during his meeting with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
