We Should Not Attach Great Importance to Gunfire, It Will Continue: Hovik Aghazaryan

It was a very important meeting; I do not recall a meeting at this level and format having taken place before. This was stated by Hovik Aghazaryan, a member of the National Assembly from the Civil Contract faction, in an interview with ArmLur.am, reflecting on the U.S.-Armenia-EU meeting that took place in Brussels on April 5.

“This is a very important issue in the sense that we need to diversify our economy. This should contribute to the development of the economy, which, in turn, will lead to strengthening our defense capabilities,” he said.

In response to the observation that expectations from the meeting were greater than the promised financial support, Aghazaryan said, “I do not think that the mathematics is relevant here; what is important is politics and the parties' commitment to addressing the issues that have arisen. Focusing solely on that specific figure may not be entirely correct. On the other hand, any people who undervalued that meeting can give their assessment if any results come about. Let everyone hold onto their opinion.”

Speaking about the subsequent recent provocations by Azerbaijan after the meeting, the MP noted that Armenia is in a state of war with Azerbaijan, with periodic ceasefire violations being recorded. “We must purposefully follow the path we have adopted. Such things will happen, pursuing various objectives. The process of monitoring the ceasefire is very difficult, despite the presence of observers. Fire can inadvertently be opened from one of the positions, which can cause an exchange of gunfire. Therefore, we should not attach great importance to this to some extent. It is true that residents' property has been damaged, but, regrettably, these realities will continue,” Aghazaryan said.
