Israel Proposes to UN to Dissolve Palestinian Refugee Agency
Israel has proposed to the United Nations to dissolve the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and transfer its responsibilities to another body. This information was reported by The Guardian, citing UN sources.
"Israel has suggested to the UN to dissolve UNRWA and move its personnel to another agency," the article states. It is clarified that the Israeli initiative entails relocating UNRWA personnel to another UN agency, such as the World Food Programme.
At the same time, the publication notes that UN humanitarian workers are confident that only UNRWA has the resources and trust of the Palestinians to deliver food to the Gaza Strip, and attempts to dissolve the agency for political reasons would lead to disastrous consequences.
