Very bad, very dangerous. Russian Ambassador in Armenia
U.S. officials openly state in their public statements that they view relations with Armenia in the context of conflicts with Russia and Iran. This was said by Sergey Kopirkin, the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, in an interview with Armenian 24News.
The ambassador commented on the statement by Russia's Foreign Affairs head Sergey Lavrov, which indicated that the Armenian leadership is "consciously trying to undermine relations with Russia under fabricated pretexts, distorting the history of the last three years."
“As for what our foreign minister says, I believe he is the foreign minister and knows what he is saying. Thus, I wouldn’t provide any additional comments regarding the minister’s words. I believe that these words, as I assess, genuinely reflect deep concern about what is currently happening in our relationship and concern for their fate. Because we understand, unfortunately, that our relations are now becoming a subject of broader confrontation. This is not hidden by the same United States,” Kopirkin stated.
According to him, he has repeatedly mentioned statements by U.S. officials who said that “the United States views its relations with Armenia precisely in the context of the confrontation with Russia and Iran.”
“This is very bad, very dangerous. This is indeed what can cause real harm to our relations, especially if there is no political will from the Armenian side to defend this relationship that is very important for our peoples, both for the Republic of Armenia and for ordinary people, Armenian families,” said the Russian ambassador.
“It is, of course, very important that what unites us, what is vital—not only economically but also socially, culturally, psychologically, and, of course, in terms of security for the region's stability and prospects for peaceful development—should not be lost under outside pressure, but rather emerge from interests that correspond to the interests of the peoples living in the region, the people who reside there, and the interests of the Russians, including Russian-Armenians, who have nothing to do with this and are fundamentally against it,” he noted.
