We Will Strive for Proper Punishment for Those Responsible: Peskov
Russia will strive to ensure that those responsible for military crimes against Russians in Ukraine receive proper punishment. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia. The information is reported by RIA Novosti.
Peskov commented on the UN report regarding the torture of Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine, noting that this is not new for Moscow, as all crimes of the Kyiv regime are documented. “Of course, we will strive to ensure that those who are behind these crimes receive proper punishment,” Peskov said, responding to a question about what further actions can be expected from Moscow and whether the issue of punishing war criminals will be raised.
Earlier, the UN Human Rights Council's commission of inquiry into Ukraine reported that Ukrainian soldiers have committed war crimes by executing and torturing Russian prisoners of war. The UN mission reported 25 cases of revenge against Russian prisoners by Ukrainian forces. Additionally, Ukraine has not initiated criminal proceedings against its soldiers who executed Russian prisoners of war, despite the documented occurrences of several executions, stated Volker Turk, head of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
