If Azerbaijan Does Not Respond to Our Step, We Will Enter a Cul-de-Sac: Aghazaryan
If this can be seen as a unilateral step, let it be seen that way; let’s see what the international community says about it. This was stated today by the MP of the ruling Civil Contract faction, Hovik Aghazaryan, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, in response to questions regarding the surrender of four Tavush villages.
“Being in a rather difficult geopolitical situation in the region, with neighbors like Turkey and Azerbaijan, our opportunities are very limited. We must necessarily involve the attention of international powers in our steps. I am not saying that it is decisive, but it is very important. You can also see that some processes are unfolding a bit differently,” he said.
Addressing the criticism that Azerbaijan’s threats are bringing the Armenian agenda to surrender territories, Aghazaryan said: “I don’t think we should give in to the threat of war because everything has its measure and limit. I don’t think we are in that situation. I believe we are making steps in line with the logic of peace processes.”
When asked if he sees any corresponding steps from the other side, he responded: “I don’t see them. If we disregard the fact that Aliyev announces that Armenia and Azerbaijan have never been closer to signing a peace agreement, these are merely statements that are not backed by concrete actions. If we take this step and they do not reciprocate, we will enter a cul-de-sac.”
