Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Clarifies Whether a Turkish Representative Can Join EU Observation Mission

During a session of the National Assembly on March 19, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan clarified whether a Turkish representative could join the EU observation mission in Armenia, while discussing the ratification of the agreement regarding the status of the European Union mission in the Republic of Armenia.

Opposition 'Armenia' alliance MP Gegham Manukyan pointed out that the document allows representatives from non-EU countries to be part of the mission. At the same time, there is no clause stipulating the approval of candidates by Armenia.

“If such a possibility is granted to the EU, could a representative from Turkey or, say, Albania be an observer within the mission? Can Armenia control the number of observers?” asked Manukyan.

In response, Safaryan stated that agreement on such matters is achieved through political dialogue, citing the example of a representative from Canada.

Furthermore, the number of mission personnel is also under discussion, and this is a mandatory point for both parties.
