Zakharova on Russia's Peacekeeping Activities in Nagorno-Karabakh

France, following the failure of its African policy, is attempting to create an image of a peacekeeper in Nagorno-Karabakh, although it is Russia that has been carrying out peacekeeping operations there. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

During an interview on the ‘Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov’ program on ‘Russia 1’ television, Zakharova expressed her view that the increase in Paris’s activity in the South Caucasus is “some kind of compensation for the failure of French policy in Africa.”

According to Zakharova, France’s attempts in the Caucasus include peacekeeping efforts. “We understand that this has nothing to do with peacekeeping, it was our country that assumed and carried out the entire peacekeeping role, even in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement as a mediator. Now that the most difficult phase has ended, we hope that France, as a NATO member, will not try to stir up the fire again,” said the Russian diplomat.

Earlier, we reported that at the end of February, French President Emmanuel Macron said during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Armenia that Paris supports efforts to establish just and sustainable peace in the South Caucasus.
