VIDEO. ALARM. There is a decision to demolish the building of the Yerevan Clock Factory
Residents are alarmed that a decision has been made to demolish the building of the Yerevan Clock Factory. The alert was sounded on Facebook by the Yerevan Heritage Protection Committee, referencing a user named Paruyr Sinyavsky. The latter visited the premises of the Yerevan Clock Factory, posting photos and videos from the site.
He also made a post, which we present with partial excerpts: “Say goodbye to the history of Yerevan. This is the Clock Factory, and a notice about its demolition has appeared on its gates. Most of the interiors of such buildings have already been destroyed, only the main structure remains. A German prisoner built it for everyone so that some could get rich. How it came to be, is beyond my understanding. The structure has stood for so many years; they could have prevented it from decaying and done something useful at the site. But no, a construction boom is set for Yerevan until 2025.
I understand that for many, this does not matter, it’s not Sakura or Corteir in the city center, which are so close to your hearts, it’s far from you, just two stops away from the Opera. I remember during Serge's time, there were dozens of activists concerned about 18th-century houses in the city center. Where are they now? True, in the same demolishers' shoes, but now everything is legal. We love to insult Georgians for their anti-Armenian actions regarding our history in Tbilisi, but I argue that despite all this, more of Armenian history has been preserved in Tbilisi than here in Yerevan,” wrote Paruyr Sinyavsky.
