Germany Decides to Rename Kyiv
The German Foreign Ministry has changed the transliteration of Ukraine's capital from Kyiv to Kyjiw, the ministry reports on social media platform X.
The new name will be used in official correspondence, texts, and informational materials referring to the capital of Ukraine.
“The Foreign Ministry is currently gradually changing the spelling, which will apply to the websites and signboards of embassies,” the statement said.
In 2019, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names unanimously decided to change the name of Ukraine's capital from Kiev to Kyiv in its international database.
