Georgian President Criticized for Not Congratulating Ilham Aliyev
President Salome Zourabichvili of Georgia has faced criticism for not congratulating Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the Azerbaijani presidential elections. This information was reported by Sputnik Georgia.
“In recent years, geopolitical risks in the region have increased, and the Georgian government is taking measures to mitigate them. Against this backdrop, the president abstains from congratulating our neighbor, partner, and friendly state's leader on his election victory. This is a sign of political shortsightedness,” said Deputy Prime Minister Tea Tsulukiani.
Defense Minister Irakli Chikovani also mentioned that this is a matter of elementary diplomatic etiquette. “I believe this harms the interests of our state and the objectives of our strategic partnership with Azerbaijan,” he said.
