Some People Have Simply Lost Their Sense of Proportion: Zakharova on Khandanyan's Statement
In striving to please the West, one should not reach extremes and fall into absurdity. This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, while commenting on the words of the Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Permanent Commission, Sargis Khandanyan.
“We have paid attention to the statement made by the head of the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Commission, Sargis Khandanyan, that negotiations with Baku on the platforms of Washington and Brussels ‘have international authority, and this gives them legitimacy,’” said Zakharova.
She noted that, unfortunately, a number of people who make such statements have simply lost their sense of proportion.
As for Yerevan's statements about the 'backtracking on the points of the peace agreement', Zakharova emphasized that this is a very important issue for Armenia itself. “Washington and Brussels have either copied them, let me remind those who speak of the greater legitimacy of these two platforms, or have rephrased them to favor their own interests,” Zakharova stated.
She raised a question about what legitimacy such false mediators could even talk about if the collective West, led by the United States, disregards international law, incites wars and conflicts, organizes color revolutions, and imposes fabricated rules on everyone from the West.
“Another important point: if anything discussed on the Washington and Brussels platforms contradicts Armenia's national interests, will they not remember the statements of such politicians later, that these platforms give greater legitimacy to statements and documents? One simply needs to know the history, the history of one’s own countries and regions, as well as world history,” she said.
Zakharova emphasized that any assessments regarding regression, progression, or stagnation that are made by Yerevan’s official representatives at an official level are the absolute right of that state. She also did not rule out any connection between the statements and the visit of the U.S. ambassador to Yerevan.
