Details Emerge About the Death of Senior Lieutenant in Vardenis, Injured by His Service Weapon

On January 9, 2024, reports were received regarding the discovery of Senior Lieutenant Mikael Danielyan's body at 11:30 AM at a firing position of the military unit N of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, with a gunshot wound. This was announced by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

According to preliminary data, the serviceman sustained a fatal injury from a gunshot wound to the neck, fired from his own service weapon.

In connection with the incident, a criminal investigation has been initiated at the fifth garrison investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee under part 2 of article 522 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (causing a serviceman to commit suicide negligently during combat duty or military service).

An examination of the scene has been conducted, corresponding expert examinations have been commissioned, and several witnesses have been interrogated. The investigation is ongoing, with all necessary and urgent actions being undertaken to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding the serviceman’s death.
