Why Bus Drivers Stopped and Halted Traffic: Clarification
Yesterday evening in Yerevan, after snowfall, buses in the 6th district of Nor Nork stopped and did not move forward. Facebook user Nara Vardanyan shared a video showing how people were getting off the buses and trying to find a way home.
To clarify the situation, Auroranews spoke with Hovhannes Manukyan, the director of Yerevan Bus LLC. “All bus tires are new—seasonal tires. Even if they were winter tires, there was a moment of black ice, and the driver did not take the risk. In such a situation, much worse could have happened; it is a large vehicle, and they avoided causing damage or risking passengers' lives. I think the driver did nothing wrong,” he stated.
According to Manukyan, the roads should have been clear. Perhaps the salt and sand were delayed at some point. Regarding complaints about the 100 dram fare, he mentioned, “As for the fact that the 100 drams were taken but did not reach the destination, let me remind you that passengers pay the fare immediately upon boarding the bus.”
It is worth recalling that earlier reports indicated that due to heavy snow at night, buses in the 6th district of Nor Nork had stopped, drivers refused to continue operations, and passengers paid the 100 dram fare but had to walk home.
