Investigation into Surik Khachatryan's Son Completed
The investigation into the case of T. Khachatryan, accused of committing hooliganism with the use of a firearm and causing bodily harm to an individual in Goris, has been completed by the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Syunik regional division.
Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that on June 19, 2023, around 8:30 PM, T. Khachatryan, accompanied by two close friends, arrived at an auto service station in Goris to clarify details regarding a quarrel that had arisen during a phone conversation about purchasing tires for his Mercedes-Benz.
During discussions with a 46-year-old local resident involved in tire sales, using a trivial reason, Khachatryan engaged in provocative behavior, resulting in a heated argument with the auto service employees, during which he directed sexual insults at them.
Ignoring the norms of community coexistence and violating the peace of nearby residents, he unlawfully discharged a firearm towards the 46-year-old man, inflicting injuries that qualify as medium severity, before fleeing the scene and avoiding prosecution.
He was later discovered in Yerevan and presented to the authorities conducting the proceedings. Based on sufficient evidence, T. Khachatryan was formally charged under Article 335, Part 1; Article 167, Parts 2, Points 6, 8, and 12; and Article 297, Part 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code. The investigator requested the court to confirm the pre-trial detention, which was granted, and Khachatryan was subsequently detained.
The case materials have been forwarded to the supervising prosecutor to affirm the indictment and to be sent to court.
It is also noted that the 46-year-old victim in the proceedings, warned of the obligation to testify under Article 50, Part 3, Point 2 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and about providing truthful answers under Article 218, Part 3, refused to testify about the circumstances known to him regarding Khachatryan’s crimes. A separate case has been initiated concerning this refusal, leading to a decision to initiate public criminal prosecution against the 46-year-old under Article 503, Part 2, Point 2 of the Criminal Code, and charges have been presented against him. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
