24-Year-Old Man Rapes and Murders 93-Year-Old Woman in Agarak: Investigative Committee

The investigation into the murder of an elderly resident in the Agarak community of Lori Berd, conducted by the Lori regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee, is ongoing. The Investigative Committee previously reported that on December 1, 2023, at 14:40, the body of 93-year-old A. Arakelyan was found in her home on the 1st street of Agarak, showing injuries to the head.

Investigation data indicated that the elderly woman sustained life-threatening injuries inflicted by 24-year-old E. A., a resident of the same community. Further urgent investigative actions revealed other significant circumstances surrounding the incident. Specifically, it was established that, under the influence of alcohol, E. A. visited his former girlfriend's house late in the evening, knocked on her window, and upon being noticed, fled to the nearby yard of the elderly woman's house, broke the glass of the victim's window, and illegally entered the residence.

He then approached the defenseless woman lying in bed, and realizing that she recognized him, he struck multiple blows to A. Arakelyan's head and face in an attempt to conceal his illegal entry into her home, intending to take her life. Additionally, the investigation has revealed that before the woman's death, the 24-year-old committed sexual violence against the victim.

After murdering A. Arakelyan, the young man stole two mobile phones belonging to the victim and fled the scene. During a personal search of the arrested E. A., the victim's mobile phone was discovered. Based on sufficient evidence collected, public criminal charges have been filed against the 24-year-old under Article 155, Part 2, Point 13, Article 207, Part 1, and Article 254, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. A request for his detention as a preventive measure has been submitted to the court and granted. The investigation continues.
