It is also worth noting that Argentina's forward Lionel Messi commented on the disturbances that occurred prior to the Brazil-Argentina match and the team’s decision to return to the locker room. “We saw how the police were beating people, while our families were in the stands. The same incident happened during the Copa Libertadores final. The players were more concerned about what was happening in the stands than thinking about the game. We were still playing to calm the situation down,” Messi said after the match.
