Deputy Foreign Minister on Visa Liberalization EU Announcement
Armenia welcomes the decision of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers to begin negotiations on visa liberalization with Armenia. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Paruir Hovhannisyan during a conversation with journalists.
"The issue of visa liberalization is one of the most complex problems on the agenda between Armenia and the EU. The decision of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers pertains to starting negotiations on visa liberalization with Armenia. Thus, the process has moved forward. It is important that there was no country that opposed, as it is difficult to ensure such consensus. This is a very positive development. We will continue to actively work with the European Union and member states to expedite this process as much as possible," the Deputy Minister elaborated.
It is noteworthy that after the EU Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell announced that various options are being discussed for the liberalization of the visa regime for Armenia.
