US Strikes Against Iran-Backed Groups in Syria Ordered by Biden
According to a written statement by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, President Joe Biden ordered airstrikes against Iran-backed groups in eastern Syria yesterday.
At least six people have been reported killed, according to Fox News, citing a senior official from the US Department of Defense.
“Today, US forces conducted precise strikes against targets in eastern Syria used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and affiliated groups in response to ongoing attacks on American forces in Iraq and Syria,” said the Pentagon chief.
“The President has no higher priority than the safety of American servicemen, and he has directed today's actions to send a clear message that the United States will defend itself, its troops, and its interests,” Austin added. He noted that “the strikes targeted a training center and a shelter used by the Iran-backed group.”
