Kyiv Should Not Even Dream of Joining the EU: Poland's Ultimatum
The issue of Ukraine's membership in the European Union cannot even be considered until the question of exhuming the remains of the victims of the Volhynia massacres is resolved, stated Poland's Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski during a broadcast on ZET radio. This information is reported by RIA Novosti.
“Without resolving this issue, Kyiv should not even dream of EU membership,” he said.
According to the politician, if Warsaw desires to be in the same union with a country it has serious disagreements with, then these disagreements must be addressed.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that there cannot be complete reconciliation between Poland and Ukraine without a search for all remains of the victims of the Volhynia massacre.
The interpretation of the Volhynia massacre remains one of the most complex points in Polish-Ukrainian relations. In the summer of 2016, the lower house of Poland's parliament decided to recognize July 11 as a national day of remembrance for the victims of the genocide perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists against the residents of the Second Polish Republic between 1943 and 1945.
