Blinken Highlights Measures to Avoid Recurrent Israeli-Palestinian Crisis
The way to avoid a recurrence of the Israeli-Palestinian crisis is to create conditions for sustainable peace, including a ban on the forced displacement of Gaza's population and the occupation of the enclave. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken while summarizing the outcomes of the G7 foreign ministers' summit. The information was reported by RIA Novosti.
“As a result, the only way to avoid a recurrence of the conflict is to create conditions for sustainable peace and security and to shape our diplomatic efforts now, considering all of this. The United States believes that key elements should include the prohibition of the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza—neither now nor after the war, ensuring that Gaza is not used as a platform for terrorism or other brutal attacks, a ban on the reoccupation of Gaza after the end of the conflict, a prohibition against attempts to blockade or besiege Gaza, and the prohibition of the reduction of Gaza's territories,” Blinken stated during a press conference.
He also mentioned the need to ensure that terrorist threats do not emerge from the West Bank. “We also need to work on secure elements for sustainable peace. They should involve Palestinian voices and aspirations in the center of Gaza's post-conflict governance, integrating Palestinian governance and Gaza's unification with the West Bank under Palestinian leadership, as well as a robust mechanism for Gaza's reconstruction,” Blinken declared.
