Levon Kocharyan Becomes MP
The Central Electoral Commission has granted Levon Kocharyan a mandate from the 'Armenia' faction of the National Assembly. This was announced by the commission's chairman, Vahagn Hovakimyan, during a session.
"The CEC records that the mandate of the 'Armenia' alliance in the National Assembly is given to the next candidate, Levon Robert Kocharyan," noted Hovakimyan.
Earlier, Armenia faction member Armen Charchyan had resigned from his parliamentary mandate, while other members submitted declarations of self-exclusion. Thus, the next candidate on the electoral list was Levon Kocharyan.
The son of the second President of the Republic of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, is currently in custody. He has been charged with not complying with the legal demand to clear the road from the red berets during a demonstration on September 22 and using violence against police officers.
According to Levon Kocharyan's legal team, from the moment he acquires the status of an MP on November 6, 2023, he cannot be held in custody.
