Sanosyan Clarifies the Progress of the North-South Road Construction
The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, considers the commencement of construction on several sections of the North-South road to be a positive development. He made this statement during a brief press conference at the National Assembly.
The minister noted that the Yerevan-Artashat and Yerevan-Ashtarak sections had been completed, but construction had then stalled. According to him, there are judicial issues concerning certain segments, which is why the work has either halted or slowed down, although it seems that these problems are also being resolved.
Construction on the Ashtarak-Talin section has begun, and this process will be handled by two companies, each given an 18-month deadline to complete the work. Sanosyan stated that construction on the Lanjik-Gyumri segment will soon be finished, after which work will commence in the south on the Agarak-Kajaran stretch.
“We are committed to implementing this project, and we are working in that direction. The issue is not related to finances. The problems stem from various discussions, challenges, design issues, and disagreements with donors, among others,” the minister added.
At the same time, the minister did not specify exact timelines for when the road will be fully completed. He explained that construction on different sections of the road began at various times and thus requires different durations to finish.
