US and EU Remain Committed to Establishing Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan
US President Joe Biden welcomed European Union leaders Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen at the White House. In a joint statement regarding the US-EU summit, it was noted that both parties remain committed to advancing the process of establishing sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, based on mutual recognition of each other's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders.
Azerbaijan has been called upon to ensure the rights and safety of those remaining in Nagorno-Karabakh or wishing to return to their homes. All parties have been urged to refrain from using force or threats of force.
The US-EU joint statement strongly condemned Hamas and its brutal terrorist attack on Israel. 'Terrorism has no justification. We reaffirm Israel's right to defend itself against these despicable attacks,' the document states.
During the meeting, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that they stand together with Israel against terrorism, noting that the Palestinian people are also victims of Hamas. Charles Michel expressed the desire for a peace process based on the principle of two states.
President Biden mentioned in the recent meeting that he received assurances from the presidents of Israel and Egypt that the crossing point for humanitarian aid would be opened. He stated that they are discussing the situation in Israel and Ukraine and also touched upon economic issues, suggesting discussions on metals, aluminum, and critical raw materials, referring to what he called 'unjust trade.'
The United States and the European Union called on Russia to end its brutal war and to withdraw its troops unconditionally and completely from internationally recognized territory of Ukraine.
The leaders of the US and Europe reaffirmed their support for the territorial integrity of Georgia and Moldova and their European aspirations.
