Israeli Chief of Staff: 'The Soldiers Have Failed in Their Duties'
The chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi, stated that during the attack by Hamas on the territories adjacent to Gaza, the soldiers failed in their duties. As noted by the Haaretz newspaper, this is Halevi's first statement since the start of the new Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The Israel Defense Forces are responsible for the safety of the country and its citizens. On Saturday (October 7), we were unable to fulfill our duties in the communities adjacent to the Gaza Strip. We will investigate why this happened, but now is the time to fight,” said Halevi while addressing troops at a base near the Gaza border.
The head of the Israeli army indicated that Gaza's leaders would face repercussions and would be “eliminated.” Moreover, according to TASS, Herzi Halevi also urged Hezbollah supporters not to intervene in the conflict.
Halevi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and stated, “The price of war is high and heavy. We will do everything to bring the captives home.”
