Video: Protest Against Avinyan Taking Place Near Yerevan City Hall
The "Baboon Man" women's initiative and several other civic initiatives are holding a protest in front of the Yerevan City Hall, where the first session of the Yerevan Council is taking place.
The protesters are standing with banners that read "You Have No Mandate." They are opposed to the nomination of Tigran Avinyan, the candidate for mayor from the ruling "Civil Contract" party.
Members of the political initiative have sent notices to political forces that participated in the Yerevan Council elections, including the "National Progress" party, the "Mother Armenia" alliance, and individually to all elected members of the "Public Voice" party.
They demand that the political forces demonstrate political will and maturity and refrain from attending the mayoral election session.
It should be noted that 37 council members are currently participating in the ongoing council session, meaning there is a quorum. The Yerevan Council has nominated Tigran Avinyan for the position of mayor.
