Control Restored at the Gaza Strip Border, Says Israeli Defense Forces
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has announced that it has finally restored control over the border with the Gaza Strip. This was reported by the Times of Israel.
The IDF stated that it has successfully closed the border and has laid mines along sections of the fence through which Hamas militants had infiltrated Israel.
IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari reported that soldiers did not discover any tunnels leading from Gaza into Israeli territory, despite previous reports suggesting otherwise. The spokesperson added that there may be a small number of militants remaining inside Israel.
IDF Colonel Richard Hecht also mentioned that the bodies of 1,500 soldiers have been found in southern Israel. Since the start of military operations on October 7, over 900 casualties have been reported on the Israeli side, including 260 people killed during a music festival. The death toll in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 700.
Israel has declared war and called up 300,000 reserve soldiers in preparation for a possible ground invasion.
