“We Wouldn’t Want Putin to Ever Have to Cancel His Visits to Armenia” - Peskov
“We wouldn’t want President Putin to ever have to cancel his visits to Armenia.” This statement was made by the spokesman for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, while commenting on the Armenian Parliament's ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
“Armenia is an ally of Russia, a friendly state, a partner. Of course, we have many commonalities with the fraternal Armenian people. We have no doubt that these commonalities will unite us forever,” said Peskov.
The Parliament ratified the Rome Statute with 60 votes in favor and 22 against, recognizing the powers of the International Criminal Court with retroactive effect. It should be noted that the representatives of the opposition factions voted against it.
Additionally, on September 28, this move was unanimously approved by the National Assembly’s Legal Committee. Russia has officially labeled this action by Armenia as unfriendly towards them. It is important to note that the ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
