Powerful Explosion Rocks Customs Warehouse at One of Tashkent's Airports
A powerful explosion shook the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, last night. The incident occurred at a customs warehouse at one of the airports.
The blast shattered windows of nearby buildings and caused significant damage. Many vehicles were also damaged in the explosion. Social media users reported that the shockwave was felt several kilometers away, forcing many to spend the night in their cars.
Fortunately, there have been no casualties reported; however, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan has indicated that there are injured individuals. The exact number of those injured is still being determined, but many have sought treatment at hospitals for facial injuries.
Earlier reports suggested that the explosion and subsequent fire could have been caused by an aviation disaster, but the Ministry of Emergency Situations has refuted this, stating that the explosion was due to a lightning strike.
Local media reports suggest that the warehouse may have contained batteries for electric vehicles.
