KPP MP Appoints Father, Brother-in-law, Girlfriend, Relatives to Parliament Jobs
“Joghvor” newspaper reports that the MP from the Armenian Parliament’s “Civil Contract” faction, Hasmik Hakobyan, is placing her acquaintances and relatives in jobs within the National Assembly. Taking advantage of the support from Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, she has managed to employ various family members, starting from her father, her son-in-law, a relative, and a girlfriend.
It is noteworthy that Hasmik Hakobyan was an assistant to Alen Simonyan in the parliament formed in 2018. During the elections in 2021, Alen Simonyan placed her on the KPP list, and she transitioned from a parliamentary assistant to an MP. She is among the most privileged MPs and has been known to go on the highest number of business trips.
According to the newspaper, during this time, Hasmik Hakobyan has managed to:
- Employ her own father, Armen Hakobyan, in the transport division of the Parliament’s administrative department.
- Appoint Mari Stepanyan as the head of the Legal Provision and Servicing Division.
- Place her relative, Nina Hakobyan, to work near the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, as an assistant.
- Hire her brother-in-law, Varoy, as the driver for the Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan.
- Employ the mother of her daughter’s classmate and another acquaintance in the parliamentary medical point, one of whom is nurse Lilit Ohanian.
“Joghvor” newspaper has sought comments from Hasmik Hakobyan regarding these appointments. As the newspaper notes, she naturally has not denied the information, stating that no one should suffer due to another's position.
