Government Donates Airport to Ministry of Defense: 'Hraparak'

The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports: The government is donating the 'Emergency Situations Airport' LLC to the Ministry of Defense. According to the draft project, the goal is the perspective development of small aviation and airports in Armenia.

This airport is located in the Lori region, in the city of Stepanavan, 20 km away from Georgia. The airport has not operated flights for many years and has not conducted any activities.

The real estate represents a 61.7-hectare land area, while the majority of the buildings are completely demolished. The airport had previously been included in the list of state properties for privatization but was later removed.

The government’s decision project does not contain any information about what development plans the Ministry of Defense will implement.

“The basis for developing the decision project was the letter from the Ministry of Defense dated February 14, 2023, No. MD/510/766-2023, addressed to the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the prospects for the development of small aviation and airports in Armenia,” the draft states.
