NATO to Conduct Largest Exercises Since Cold War: Financial Times

NATO plans to hold the largest joint command exercises since the Cold War next year, according to the Financial Times.

It is reported that around 40,000 soldiers will participate in the exercises, aiming to repel any potential Russian attack on one of the alliance's member states.

The exercises, named “Steadfast Defender,” will include 41,000 troops, over 50 ships, and will conduct between 500 and 700 combat flights. These drills will also be the first to utilize real geographical data to create more realistic scenarios for the forces.

In addition to the 31 member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, Sweden will also participate, pending ratification of its membership by Turkey and Hungary.

The exercises are scheduled to take place in Germany, Poland, and the Baltic states in February and March 2024.
