Zelensky to Repeat Saakashvili's Fate: Volodin

The Speaker of the State Duma of Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin, has stated that Vladimir Zelensky will repeat the fate of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. He announced, “Zelensky will repeat Saakashvili's fate... The fate of Washington and Brussels' puppets always ends the same way—they get rid of them. Zelensky is next. Saakashvili is remembered only for chewing ties. He is despised, imprisoned. The same fate awaits Zelensky,” Volodin noted on his Telegram channel.

Volodin stated that from the very beginning of governance, “Saakashvili's regime was notoriously anti-Russian, and the EU and NATO supported him, funded him, supplied weapons, and trained his military.” He added, “The same happened later in Ukraine.”

He recalled that later, when Saakashvili was “no longer needed by the West,” he was condemned in his homeland. He was expelled from Ukraine and stripped of his citizenship. “History repeats itself, but now with Zelensky. The West is already tired of him and the insatiable regime in Kyiv. His ingratitude has become a dominant thought in European politics. This is officially declared in both Britain and even Poland,” Volodin emphasized.

It is noted that Saakashvili was arrested in Georgia on October 1, 2021, and is involved in several criminal cases. The politician was sentenced in absentia for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and for assaulting MP Valeri Gelashvili: three years for the former case and six years for the latter. Additionally, he is connected to the dispersal of an opposition rally on November 7, 2007, an attack on the Imedi television channel, and the embezzlement of funds from the state budget; courts are currently examining these cases. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated that Saakashvili will remain in prison for a long time; he will serve the entire sentence imposed on him.
