War Could Not Be Stopped Without the Presence of a Third Force, Tonoyan Says
The guarantee to stop military actions was the presence of peacekeepers or a third force on the stage. This was stated by former Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan during a session of the Parliamentary Investigation Committee examining the consequences of the 44-day war.
“The agreements of September 9 had no guarantees that they would be implemented. The guarantee was the presence of peacekeepers, in other words, the presence of a third force on the stage. This was the only security for stopping the war,” said Davit Tonoyan.
It is noteworthy that Davit Tonoyan, who has been in prison for more than a year and a half, recently announced that on July 4 he submitted a request to the Anti-Corruption Court to allow him to attend a session of the Parliamentary Committee. He emphasized that he decided to provide explanations in response to statements made by Nikol Pashinyan and the former Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan. “Having played a key role in the management of the war, I have much to say to the committee,” he stated.
