Disagreements Are Insurmountable: The Dutch Government Resigns

The Dutch public broadcasting corporation reports that the government of the Netherlands, led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, has resigned.

Rutte announced the resignation after the government coalition was unable to reach an agreement on measures to limit the influx of asylum seekers following prolonged consultations.

“This evening, unfortunately, we came to the conclusion that the disagreements are insurmountable. Therefore, I will soon submit my resignation on behalf of the entire government to the king,” Rutte said at a press conference.

It is noteworthy that on July 7, the Dutch government held a concluding meeting to address the migration crisis in the country. Reports indicated that the government parties had managed to reach an agreement on labor migration and the migration of highly qualified specialists, but they failed to come to an agreement on measures to reduce the influx of asylum seekers.
