VIDEO: Over $50,000 Falls from Motorcyclist's Open Backpack on Road in the Philippines
A man riding a motorcycle on one of the highways in Cebu City, Philippines, has lost £40,000 (over $50,000) from his open backpack due to a broken zipper, according to the Daily Mail.
The cash fell onto the road, surprising other drivers. Many of them jumped out of their vehicles and eagerly scooped up the money.
John Mark Barientos, who works at a shopping mall in an electronic wallet loading point, recounted that he noticed the broken zipper of his bag when it was already too late.
“I saw in the side mirror that the bills were falling out, so I stopped to collect them, but others were also gathering the notes. I hope they will return the money; I don’t have the money to pay for all this,” he told a local radio station.
After counting the money at the police station, officials stated that about £14,000 was missing, although three individuals have already returned their collected cash.
Cebu City Police Chief Ireneio Dalogdog told local media that the police are investigating the incident. They are trying to identify the owners of other vehicles that were seen on the radio.
