«We Have Neither the Opportunity Nor the Desire to Monitor Prigozhin’s Movements» - Peskov
The Kremlin is not interested in the founder and leader of the Wagner private military company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, following the cessation of armed rebellion after he mediated with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. This was stated today by Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
Earlier today, Lukashenko asserted at a press conference in Minsk that Prigozhin is no longer in Belarus. “We do not monitor his [Prigozhin's] movements; we neither have the opportunity nor the desire to do so,” Peskov declared.
He confirmed that a meeting between Putin and Lukashenko is planned soon, but noted that the dates are still to be determined. Lukashenko previously mentioned that among other topics, they would discuss the issue of Prigozhin during this meeting.
Yesterday, Russian state television accompanied its report on Prigozhin with extremely harsh critical commentary and reported that a criminal investigation into the attempted coup continues.
