Georgian Ambassador to Return to Tbilisi from Kyiv
The head of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, has announced that the country's ambassador in Kyiv, Giorgi Zakariazde, will soon return to Tbilisi. This decision follows the Ukrainian authorities' suggestion for him to leave the country for consultations related to the situation surrounding the former president of Georgia.
According to the TASS news agency, Darchiashvili stated, “The ambassador will return to Georgia in the near future. It is also very important to understand the basis on which this incomprehensible decision was made. I believe that everything related to the former president is clear; all questions concern the extent to which the state is responsible for the rights of all detainees, including Mr. Saakashvili.”
It should be noted that prior to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expel the Georgian ambassador and issued a directive that he leave the state within 48 hours. He also called on the Georgian authorities to hand over Mikheil Saakashvili, who is a citizen of Ukraine.
