US Secretary of State Comments on Stoltenberg's Extension of Authority
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the extension of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's mandate. His statement was released on Twitter.
“We welcome the alliance's decision to extend Jens Stoltenberg's mandate as NATO Secretary General. At this critical moment in history, we have important work ahead to strengthen NATO,” the statement reads.
Earlier, President Joe Biden had also welcomed Stoltenberg's extension, stating his intention to continue working with him on the strengthening of NATO.
Stoltenberg stated today that he will remain in office for another year, until October 1, 2024. Thus, the Norwegian’s authority, which has been leading the alliance since October 2014, is extended for the fourth time.
