Female Citizens Aged 18-27 Will Volunteer for Military Service

A system for voluntary mandatory military service for female citizens will be implemented. This was presented by the Minister of Defense of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

“The duration of mandatory military service is set at 6 months, with applications accepted from female citizens aged 18-27. Application deadlines are established until March 1 or October 1 of the respective year. Applicants will have the right to withdraw from mandatory military service until the day of conscription,” said Papikyan.

Conscripted female military personnel will be assigned to a training regiment without a lottery, and their service will be organized exclusively in that regiment. For this purpose, a process is underway to form a women's battalion in the form of a separate regiment,” he added, informing that women already contracted in military service will also be included in the administration.

Upon completion of the 6-month term or in cases of early discharge due to health conditions, female military personnel will receive a bonus. If they serve the full 6 months, they will receive a bonus of 1 million drams, while for those discharged early, the specified amount will be divided by 6 months and multiplied by the number of actual months served.

After the 6-month term, female representatives will have the right to apply for a 5-year service contract. Discharged individuals will be registered in the reserve, subject to training assemblies and mobilization conscription.
