ECtHR Resolution Becomes Another Tool for Pressuring Azerbaijan: Rubinyan
In the short term, it is difficult to determine what benefits the European Parliament Assembly's (ECPA) resolution on the Lachin corridor will bring. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, the Vice President of the National Assembly (NA) and Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Foreign Relations, at a press conference of the Armenian NA delegation at the ECPA.
According to him, the decisions of international organizations should be viewed as intertwined, as no individual resolution can solve the problem. Rubinyan is confident that the document adopted by the ECPA has provided another lever to exert pressure on Baku. The NA Vice President noted that during discussions of the document, some parliamentarians even questioned whether Azerbaijan could continue its membership in the Council of Europe after all this.
It should be recalled that the ECPA adopted the resolution entitled "Ensuring Free and Safe Passage through the Lachin Corridor" on June 22, which clearly states that there is no free and safe movement through the Lachin corridor.
Furthermore, on January 26, the ECPA had also adopted the resolution titled "Progress in the Assembly's Monitoring Processes" (January-December 2022). This included amendments proposed by the Armenian delegation regarding the immediate release of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijan and the implementation of interim measures from the European Court of Human Rights concerning the Lachin corridor.
