Use of Russian Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine to be Considered an Attack on NATO: Resolution in US Senate
The US Senate has prepared a resolution proposing to consider any use of nuclear explosive devices by Russia or Belarus in Ukrainian territory as an attack on NATO, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has informed journalists.
“Today we presented a resolution stating that if Russia or Belarus detonates a nuclear device in Ukrainian territory for the purpose of halting a counteroffensive or suppressing the will of the Ukrainian people, such an attack should be regarded as an attack on NATO,” he said at a press conference alongside Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal.
According to him, Russia must consider that the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine will trigger a “massive response from NATO, and it will be at war with NATO.”
The resolution is advisory in nature, and if adopted, the White House would not be obligated to implement it.
