Baku Seeks More in Negotiations: Khandanyan

Recent escalations in exchanges of gunfire and events in Yeraskh are concerning, especially as they occur in parallel with an active negotiation process. This was stated by MP Sargis Khandanyan from the 'Civil Contract' faction during a press briefing with journalists at the National Assembly on June 14.

The MP noted that Azerbaijan is attempting to display a more aggressive behavior before or after negotiations, trying to gain more at the negotiating table. 'Yesterday's incident is significant because civilian infrastructure was targeted, including a factory with American investments, which is an extremely important project for the Republic of Armenia. This does not change our positions; we are vocal about these incidents, and I know that the EU civilian mission is also recording these and regularly reporting its observations to member states. I believe that yesterday's incident should definitely be documented,' he stated.

Khandanyan emphasized that the best way to curb this aggression is through peace. 'The Government of the Republic of Armenia has done everything possible to demonstrate its commitment to this process. This is also evident to our international partners, and our appeal is to restrain Azerbaijan and bring them to a constructive arena,' he said, adding, 'We must continue to maintain the dynamics of the process, and I hope that Washington negotiations will be organized in the near future. A meeting between the leaders of the two countries is also being prepared in Brussels.'
