Bakhmut Officially Recognized as Part of Russia
Bakhmut (Artyomovsk) has been incorporated into the jurisdiction of the Shakhtyorsk administrative region (Gorlovka district of the Donetsk People's Republic). This decision was formalized through a decree signed by acting head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin. The information has been reported by TASS.
Fighting for Artyomovsk began in August 2022, culminating on May 20, 2023, when fighters from the Wagner private military company cleared the last streets of the western part of the city. Following the conclusion of the operation, the flag of Russia was raised over the city.
The battles for the city commenced on August 1, 2022, and ended on May 20, 2023. Prior to the fighting, the city had a population of about 72,000 people.
Bakhmut has officially become part of Russia.
