Protests Erupt in Hiroshima as G7 Summit Begins
In Hiroshima, Japan, heightened security measures have been implemented ahead of the "G7 Summit" set to commence on May 19. Protests and rallies are taking place in the city as the summit opens today, according to reports from RIA Novosti.
Demonstrators took to the streets with slogans such as "No to the summit! No to the imperialistic G7 summit! No to atomic war!" They have been accompanied by police, who have generally maintained a restrained approach. However, there have been instances where officers attempted to push protesters from behind to hasten their movement. In response, the protesters formed chains and proceeded to march in unison.
"Today, around 350 people have gathered. We started the action yesterday and will continue every day. Another rally will take place today, after which the demonstration will head towards the Atomic Bomb Dome," said Ryo Miyahara, the executive committee head of the "Hiroshima Against Atomic Warfare" action, who is organizing the rally.
It is worth noting that the "G7 Summit" will be held in Hiroshima from May 19 to 21.
