The former Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, stated that during her time in power, she made every effort to prevent the military conflict between Moscow and Kyiv. “I tried to prevent this situation using all the means at my disposal. The fact that it didn’t work out is not proof that it was wrong to try,” said the politician.

The politician urged consideration of a future scenario where negotiations between the parties may be possible. The former chancellor had previously condemned Russia’s actions, labeling them as a “blatant violation” of international law in Europe, for which “there is no justification.”

She has been repeatedly offered to act as a mediator in the resolution of the conflict, but Merkel has excluded such a possibility.
