Biden Meets with Family of Detained Journalist Gershkovich

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has held an unofficial meeting with the relatives of Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal journalist who was arrested in Russia on suspicion of espionage, reports RIA Novosti, citing the White House press service.

In attendance were the journalist’s parents, Ella Milman and Mikhail Gershkovich, his sister, Danielle Gershkovich, as well as the American leader's wife, Jill Biden.

On the same day, the Bidens also met with American basketball player Brittney Griner, who had previously been sentenced in Russia for drug smuggling. Late last year, Griner was returned home as part of a prisoner swap with Russian Viktor Bout, who was serving time in prison.
