Marukyan Calls on Russia to Finally Fulfill Their Obligations

On April 23, 2023, the Armenian Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding Azerbaijan's illegal establishment of a checkpoint in the Lachin Corridor. The authorities in Azerbaijan, grossly violating the 6th point of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, have officially blocked the Lachin Corridor, taking steps to set up a checkpoint in the area under the responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping forces.

Edmon Marukyan stated on his Facebook page, “This action carried out today by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan cannot even be considered yet another provocation. It is indeed a blatant violation of one of the fundamental provisions of the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, aimed at implementing its policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and completely depopulating the region of Armenians.”

“Since December 12 of last year, the continuous illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor under false environmental pretenses, and today’s evident fabrication and baseless reasoning for establishing a checkpoint are further steps in the consistent realization of this planned policy.”

Marukyan urged the Russian Federation to finally fulfill its obligations under the 6th point of the tripartite declaration by removing the illegal blockade of the corridor and ensuring the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from the entire security zone of the Lachin Corridor. He also called on United Nations member states endowed with an international security mandate to clearly document Azerbaijan's actions that undermine regional security and to take effective measures to ensure the unconditional enforcement of the ruling of the highest international judicial authority.
